Definition The City of Newport Beach is seeking an Administrative Assistant to the Assistant City Manager. Currently, there is one full-time (non-exempt) vacancy. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational abilities, strong communication and customer service skills, and a keen attention to detail. Position Highlights: - Provides executive-level support to the Assistant City Manager
- Works closely with the Executive Assistant to the City Manager in coordinating the administrative operations of the department
- Maintains calendars, makes appointments, schedules meetings, and coordinates departmental activities
- Interacts with elected and appointed officials, department directors, and provides administrative support to City committees
- Coordinates department personnel-related matters including payroll
- Works collaboratively with other departments

Schedule: - This position may work a 5/40 or 9/80 schedule

Retirement: The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8% (or half the normal cost, whichever is higher) of pay towards the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/CertificateA combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Four or more years of increasingly responsible administrative, secretarial, and clerical experience. Government experience and experience working closely with senior management, boards, and commissions desirable.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school. Additional coursework or training i n office administration, business administration or a related field desirable.
License/Certificate : Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.
