Description THE POSITION: Under close supervision, explains and enforces laws and ordinances relating to the treatment and control of animals; and performs other work as required.

Minimum QualificationsApplications will be accepted
only from those applicants who properly complete the City application and clearly demonstrate on the application, supplemental questionnaire, and resume that they possess the minimum qualifications which include:
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D., AND ;
- Six (6) months experience in the care and handling of animals, OR ;
- The equivalent combination of training, experience and certification.
- Possession of a valid California Class "C" Driver's License.
- Completion of a certified Penal Code 832 course within one year of appointment.
- Possession of an EBI (Euthanasia by Injection) Certificate within one year of appointment .
HIGHLY DESIRABLES: Animal handling knowledge, breed identification, familiarity working in a team environment as well as independently, time management skills, customer service experience, and an ability to document and write reports

PRELIMINARY BACKGROUND QUESTIONNAIRE (PBQ): Prior to appointment, applicants must successfully complete a preliminary investigation of their personal history and background to determine suitability for this position with the Bakersfield Police Department. Qualified candidates will be required to submit a

Examination (Weighted: 100%) EXAMINATION (Weighted: 100%) February 26, 2026 (Tentative) : An appraisal will be made of the applicant's education, training, experience, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required. **
