Description
Job SummaryThe Communication & Events Specialist serves as a key brand ambassador for the Recreation & Parks Department. This role is responsible for elevating the department’s public profile by managing all communication channels and marketing initiatives. Beyond traditional outreach, this position plays a vital role in the execution of annual special events and ensures operational success through diligent budget management. The position reports to the Recreation Manager overseeing special events, marketing and art programing.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hiring salary range: $57,616.00 - $73,444.80/ Annually, depending on qualifications Examples of DutiesMarketing & Strategic Communications- Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans to promote departmental programs, facilities, and initiatives.
- Manage the department’s public image, ensuring a consistent and positive brand voice across all media.
- Oversee digital and print collateral and social media presence.
- Manage the department’s website by reviewing pages as needed and notifying appropriate staff of updates when necessary.
Event Support & Programming- Provide hands-on support for various annual special events, coordinating outreach and onsite promotional efforts.
- Manage and oversee media contract agreements and advertising systems
- Assist in development of sponsorship guide and securing donors for event support
- Collaborate with the Recreation Manager on arts programming and community engagement projects.
Administration & Reporting- Prepare and monitor the annual marketing and communications budget to ensure cost-effective resource allocation.
- Compile data and generate detailed reports to demonstrate impact and reach.
- Act as a liaison between the department and the public to ensure transparency and community satisfaction.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Recreation, or related field.
- Three to five years of experience in these fields, including public speaking.
Required Knowledge, skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of:- Effective public relations and customer service techniques;
- Coordinating special events and programs;
Skill in:- Developing marketing and social media material;
- Dealing effectively and courteously with the public;
Ability to:- Effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal formats;
- Stay current with social media trends and best practices;
- Learn new and emerging technologies quickly;
- Operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages;
- Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal direction;
- Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public.
Special Requirements- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
