Description

POSITION

Under close supervision, receives, tags, processes, and monitors prisoners. The below list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.

QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or equivalent, AND one (1) year of experience in law enforcement, security, or related field.

Must pass the S.T.C. Jailer Core Course for certification purposes during the probationary period and possess at the time of application. Other certifications may be required by the Department of Corrections during employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an indoor environment. Requires frequent standing, walking, and bending, and the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull a grown adult; stoop, twist, squat/kneel, crawl, run, grasp, repeatedly bend and move wrists, use both hands, legs, and feet, speak, hear, and understand radio communications. Incumbents may be exposed to potential physical harm from dangerous suspects or criminals, infectious diseases, and life-threatening situations.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants whose experience best meets the city's needs will be invited to participate in the examination for this position. Candidates must have access to a computer with internet, video, and audio capabilities to participate in our examination process. The examination may consist of one or more of the following: (1) Training & Experience Evaluation, (2) Writing Exercise, and (3) Qualifications Appraisal Interview with a panel of subject matter experts. Candidates must receive a score of 70 or higher to have their names placed on the active eligibility list for one year. The top three ranks on the Eligibility List will have their application materials forwarded to the hiring authority for a selection interview.

Applicants applying for positions assigned to the Police Department will undergo a comprehensive background investigation, including a credit check, polygraph examination, and medical evaluation, prior to being offered an official appointment to the position.

Must be available to work shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies or natural disasters as requested.
