Position DescriptionEmployees in this classification are experienced LVNs responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned correctional facility. Work performed under the direction of a regional director of nursing, staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Works under the direct supervision of regional director of nursing, staff nurse staff nurse or physician. May instruct coworkers and supervise them in the performance of special procedures. Work performed as part of a total correctional managed health care team in providing safe and competent care to patients.
Major/Essential Functions- Reports clinical data and changes in patient condition to support care planning.
- Prepares and operates medical equipment for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
- Administers or assists with the administration and documentation of medications.
- Performs focused assessments and clinical procedures, documenting findings in the EMR.
- Maintains current working knowledge of treatment modalities and clinical best practices.
- Ensures proper medication storage, safety, and administration protocols, including DOT and pill window processes.
- Triages SCR requests per established guidelines.
- Completes and documents incoming chain reviews.
- Conducts daily rounds in restrictive housing and medium custody areas.
- Maintains and documents counts of working and bulk sharps in accordance with policy.
- Supervises assigned staff, delegates duties, monitors performance, and ensures adherence to policies and nursing standards.
- Assists with training, scheduling, and evaluation of staff; provides guidance and corrective action as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required QualificationsCompletion of a Board of Nursing accredited program of vocational nursing. Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. At least two years of LVN experience in a hospital, clinic or community-based environment.
