Position DescriptionStudent Health Services at Texas Tech University is the on-campus medical care clinic exclusively for Texas Tech University students. The mission of Student Health Services is to proudly provide compassionate, high-quality, and accessible health care to Texas Tech students. This primary care clinic is an exciting place to work. It is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where patients always come first. Employees in this classification are responsible for performing a wide variety of patient care activities in an assigned specialty or sub-specialty outpatient clinic. Work is performed under the direction of a licensed staff nurse and/or physician as part of a total health care team in providing complete evaluations to patients. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions, necessitating a high degree of contact with patient, families and clinic personnel.
Major/Essential Functions- Welcome patients warmly with compassion and enthusiasm.
- Listen carefully to patient needs presented face to face or over the telephone and communicating clear and accurate information in response to all members of the health care team.
- Implement teaching plans for patients and their families with well-defined health learning needs.
Reporting data, identifies and reports alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/ outcomes and patient-centered plans of care in collaboration with patients, their families, and the interdisciplinary health care team. - Work collaboratively with other health care team members to ensure patient needs are met and clinic operations are efficient.
- Communicate with patients via telephone per clinic protocols.
- Prepare and operate necessary equipment and instruments for examination, treatments, and procedures.
- Assist with or perform exams and procedures, and document intervention in EMR.
- Take and record accurate vital signs and measurements.
- Communicate patient data using EMR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
- Utilize appropriate protocols to triage walk-in patients and patients who call the clinic requiring assessment.
- Work under the supervision of a clinician and utilizing Standard Delegation Orders to manage a nurse clinic.
- Maintain inventory of supplies in examination and procedure rooms.
- Participate in the identification of patient needs for referral to resources and facilitating continuity of care.
- Assist in determining the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse patients and their families.
- Assist the Nursing Team Leader with the development and implementation of clinic goals and objectives to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
- Manage refill requests and administer medications to patients following policies and procedures for medication management.
- Complete Annual Nursing Core Competency Training and Skills Fair.
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills in the department.
- Attend nursing staff meetings.
Required QualificationsCompletion of a Board of Nursing Accredited program of vocational nursing or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Current Vocational Nursing license in the state of Texas or the attainment of a temporary permit from the Board of Nursing to practice vocational nursing pending full licensure in the state of Texas. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX- PN) on the first attempt. No experience required.
