Under limited supervision, leads and performs skilled advanced-level work in the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment plant and pump station equipment; operation of light equipment and maintains parts inventory and equipment records; and performs other work as required.
Representative DutiesThe following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of this class. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: Leads, plans, trains, prioritizes, organizes, assigns, and participates in the work of staff responsible for overhaul, repair work, and preventative maintenance on all treatment plant and pump station equipment, internal combustion engines, sewage/waste grinders, electric motors, cranes, aerators and other related plant equipment; Performs advanced skilled journey-level work and technical support in maintenance and mechanical work on all treatment plant equipment; Reviews the work of assigned employees for accuracy, and proper work methods; Assesses workplace hazards and ensures safety compliance; Develops operating procedures and trains staff on specialized equipment.

- Successful completion of approved course work in pump theory, welding and boiler operation or CWEA Mechanical Technologist Certification may be substituted for up to one year of work experience; AND
- Six years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, and engines OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties.
- Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver's license.
Examination (Weighted: 100%)An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.
