Job Description

Location: Creek County, Kay County, Lincoln County, Noble County, Osage County, Pawnee County, and Payne County

Salary: The annual salary for this position is:

Level I: up to $45,000.00, based on education and experience

Level II: up to $50,000.00, based on education and experience

Level III: up to $61,000.00, based on education and experience

Full Time /Part Time: Fulltime

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday

Primary Hours: 8-5

Position Description:

The Special Educator is responsible for providing individual and family services to enhance the learning, development, and social-emotional skills of children with developmental delays as well as promote literacy and understanding of early cognitive concepts while monitoring progress toward goals. This includes assessing and/or screening health and development in young children; coaching and modeling skills for families to implement to enhance their child’s opportunities in health, cognitive, personal-social, language, and motor development; serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.

Minimum Qualifications:

Level I: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of completion of a bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited college or university and possession of a valid teaching certificate in Special Education issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education plus one year of post-baccalaureate special education teaching experience. Plus, the ability to assess/evaluate children’s cognitive, social, emotional, communication, motor and adaptive abilities to develop educational outcomes to enhance school readiness.

Level II: Requirements at this level consist of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited college or university and possession of a valid teaching certificate issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, certified in Special Education preferred but not mandatory, plus one year of post-baccalaureate teaching experience. Plus, the ability to assess/evaluate children’s cognitive, social, emotional, communication, motor, and adaptive abilities to develop educational outcomes to enhance school readiness.

Level III: Requirements at this level consist of a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited college or university and possession of a valid teaching certificate issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, certified in Special Education preferred but not mandatory, plus two years of post-baccalaureate teaching experience. Plus, the ability to assess/evaluate children’s cognitive, social, emotional, communication, motor, and adaptive abilities to develop educational outcomes to enhance school readiness.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of early childhood development theories and concepts. Ability is required to vary communication style to fit the situation; to understand, persuade and influence outcomes to ensure clients can achieve development goals; and to analyze and identify solutions to a variety of childhood learning and development issues.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in the child’s natural environment (home or childcare setting) or in an office environment with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise levels. Telework and the provision of services remotely may also be required. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms and may lift up to 35 pounds. Applicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with any of these positions. Occasional in-state overnight and weekend travel may be required. Being present at the office is an essential function of the job.
