Description

THE POSITION

Under the direction of a Stores Administrator, the Storekeeper for the Logistics Section of the Department of Utilities is responsible for supporting the department's operations and maintenance teams by purchasing, warehousing, and distributing parts and equipment needed to maintain and repair the City’s vast water, wastewater and drainage systems. Tasks include, but are not limited to fulfilling purchase requests, creating new inventory items, editing and updating existing inventory item information, performing cycle counts, year-end inventory counts, receiving, issuing warehouse stock, and assisting with other program areas as requested.

IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, will have customer service experience, will be open to learning, and will have the ability to manage priorities in a continuously evolving work environment.

An understanding of the procure to pay lifecycle for goods and services including solicitations, purchase orders, invoicing, and other procurement functions is preferred, but not required. Experience with work order management or inventory software is desired, but not required.

Under direction, maintains and operates an independent departmental storeroom or warehouse stocking specialized materials, supplies, and parts. Receives and issues supplies, materials, tools, parts, and other items; procures items as needed to maintain inventory; coordinates or assists with emergency purchases as needed; tracks and monitors inventory location and quality; and maintains appropriate records.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a full working-level class populated with multiple incumbents. Incumbents receive occasional supervision while working toward a definite objective that requires use of a wide range of procedures. Incumbents recommend specific procedures or equipment required to meet assigned objectives and solve non-routine problems, referring only unusual matters to a higher-level administrator or manager. This class is distinguished from the lower level class of Stores Clerk II as the latter is responsible for the more routine storekeeping functions that do not usually involve significant purchasing or inventory management responsibilities. This class is also distinguished from the higher-level class of Senior Storekeeper as the latter has broader responsibility for the technical functions and supervision of warehouse personnel, supervision of procurement, and overseeing the appropriate use of storage space, facility maintenance of store facilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Direction is provided by a supervisor, higher-level administrator or manager. Responsibilities may include serving as a lead worker over lower level personnel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Experience:

Two years of experience performing storekeeping and inventory work. Experience with public agency procurement is desirable.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

Ability to enter data at a speed not less than 30 net words per minute.

Depending upon assignment, some positions in this class may require applicants to demonstrate knowledge of and familiarity with the types of technical items maintained within the assigned department or division storekeeping facilities.

Driver License:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Certifications:

Ability to attain a state issued Forklift Certification by the end of probationary period. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Physical Requirements:

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Employees must complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.

3. Eligibility: Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list. The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list. Candidate’s eligibility expires one year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Storekeeper examination.

4. Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail)- All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.

5. Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass Live Scan/fingerprinting. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
