The Probation Department is a law enforcement agency within the County of Monterey, with 5 major divisions: 4 operational divisions (Adult, Juvenile, Juvenile Hall, and Youth Center), and one infrastructure division, Administration, which includes Finance, Personnel, Training, Grants and Contracts, and Technology. The Department has about 300 permanent positions (with the majority being sworn officers), in addition to temporary staff and interns. Probation is a fast-paced environment which requires excellent customer services skills, personal initiative, adaptive thinking, strong ethics and commitment while maintaining a sense of family and camaraderie.

THE POSITION
The Juvenile Institutions Supervisor is responsible for supervising the counseling and program activities in one of the juvenile institutions of Monterey County. Incumbents supervise the conduct, behavior and activities of juveniles in custody, assist administrative staff to establish and maintain a constructive program for juvenile wards, and supervise subordinate staff. Only the best-qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process.

The Eligible List established by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.
Juvenile Institutions Supervisor candidates hired into permanent positions may be eligible to receive up to a $10,000.00 employment bonus.

Experience
Two years of working-level experience performing a variety of custodial and
rehabilitative and custodial duties in a locked juvenile facility comparable to those of the
Juvenile Institutions Officer II class series in Monterey County.
