Description

Under direction, performs work necessary to the effective enforcement of various municipal, regional, state and federal codes applicable to the health, safety and orderliness of existing properties in the City.

Under general supervision, investigates allegations of municipal code provisions related to regulating signs, parking, businesses, building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other existing property-related regulations concerned with assuring the health and safety of property and structures. Work assignments consist of applying current provisions of the various codes to given situations along with the work associated with other code enforcement activity.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of municipal code enforcement methods related to existing properties; techniques of property inspection; building tools and equipment; methods of construction. as well as the ability to interpret and apply technical code provisions to specific situations; use measuring devices and record information accurately; establish priorities and proceed to perform work within established policies and procedures with minimal direction; explain ordinances and regulations to a wide variety of people; maintain effective working relationships with staff of other departments and members of the public involved in compliance cases; prepare clear and understandable written reports and documents.
