THE OPPORTUNITY

OC Public Works (OCPW) has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineering Associate to perform a variety of field and office civil engineering work. The Civil Engineering Associate is the experienced, non-registered professional civil engineering class. Positions at this level are distinguished from Junior Engineering Assistants by their journey-level assignments and responsibility for independent engineering analysis and recommendations. Positions at this level generally work under the project leadership of Civil Engineers and are assigned all but the most complex or specialized assignments.

The most immediate vacancy is within the Traffic Engineering team, which is a group of skilled engineers, engineers-in-training, and project managers. In this role, the main responsibilities of the Civil Engineering Associate include performing traffic investigation and engineering studies, as well as reviewing, planning, designing, and/or managing transportation engineering projects.

The primary job duties of the Civil Engineering Associate include, but are not limited to, the following:



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES

The successful candidate will possess experience demonstrating the principles of Traffic Engineering and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess knowledge of and/or have experience performing traffic engineering studies. Recent experience with using computer modeling software for urban planning is desirable but not required. A Traffic Engineering license conferred by the State of CA is highly desirable but not required.

LICENSE REQUIRED
Possession of a valid California Driver License (Class C or higher) may be required for some assignments.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Human Resource Services (HRS) screens all application materials for minimum and/or desirable qualifications. After screening, applicants who meet the minimum and/or desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. Only those candidates that meet the qualifications as listed in the job bulletin will be referred to the next step. Written Exam | Multiple-choice Test (Refer/Non-Refer): Applicant will be required to take a proctored or unproctored written exam. Only the most successful candidates will be moved on to the next assessment step.

Structured Oral Interview | (Weighted 100%)
Candidates will be interviewed and rated by job knowledge experts. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list.

Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.

Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedures.
