The Bureau of Environmental Health Services performs essential functions of keeping people safe and healthy throughout Missouri, whether they are eating out at a restaurant, staying at a motel, visiting a water park, or have children in daycare. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who can understand and apply environmental health regulations, standards, and scientific principles within the field of food safety. A person in this position will be responsible for quality control within the manufactured food program, spending approximately 90% of the time in the office and 10% in the field. The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.
- Assist with maintaining compliance with national regulatory program standards.
- Manage sensitive databases of facilities, inspection records, compliance and enforcement activities, and training and auditing records.
- Process inspection reports, audit reports, complaints, and food recall notifications.
- Participate in inspection work planning.
- Assist inspectors with field work including but not limited to inspections, sample collections, and recall effectiveness checks.
- Provide technical guidance to industry, local public health agencies, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, such as public health, food science, microbiology, or other applicable field of study (substitutions for experience will be considered).
- Understanding of principles that affect food safety.
- Superior organizational skills.
- Ability to pass federal background checks to obtain and maintain federal credentials.
- Ability to travel in and out of state, including occasional overnight stays on short notice. Valid driver's license required.
- Moderate physical effort and mobility is required, i.e. driving vehicles, climbing stairs, negotiating outdoor terrain, walking/standing for hours at a time and frequent stooping/bending.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate clearly, appropriately, and effectively; attention to detail.
- Previous experience in public health or food safety is helpful but is NOT required.
