ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. It provides public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax, and Novato. ABOUT THE POSITION

Current Vacanc y: There is currently one (1) full-time, regular hire Librarian II position located in the Marin City branch .

Librarian IIs function as specialists in major program assignments such as children's or adult services. Incumbents exercise initiative and considerable independent judgment performing assigned duties including the supervision of staff.

With guidance from the Branch Manager, th e positions design and implement innovative and effective public programs, provide reference and reader’s advisory, offer targeted outreach activities, and provide proactive customer service . Librarian II possesses strong cultural sensitivity and proficiency skills and works independently and in teams, bringing services to diverse communities and promoting educational and social equity in service delivery and results. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Schedule and Hours

The Librarian II positions at each branch will have varying schedules. Most Librarians that enter MCFL through this recruitment will work a weekend day and may work at least one evening per week.

Bilingual Testing/Certification: To be eligible for the bilingual differential, the successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.
LiveScan: Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff's Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check prior to appointment.
