Description

Job Location: This position will be located at Jefferson City or within commuting distance of a DHSS regional office.

The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works to improve health by promoting and supporting policy, system, and environmental changes that reduce tobacco use and exposure. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage others to take action to reduce commercial tobacco use and exposure and other chronic disease risk factors and improve individual and community health through evidence-based interventions.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

• Provide training and technical assistance, build relationships, and collaborate with state and community partners to implement evidence-based strategies to prevent and reduce commercial tobacco product use, access, and exposure to secondhand smoke.
• Provide support to state and community-based organizations to strengthen the capacity of these groups to implement policy, system, and environmental strategies to reduce tobacco use and exposure.
• Respond to requests for information, education materials, webinars, and training from partners, coalitions, contractors, agencies, and others on best practices in tobacco control and prevention.
• Assist with preparing contracts, grant applications, progress reports, and conducting contract monitoring.
• This position requires some statewide and national travel.

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of professional experience in public health, public policy, public administration, political science, environmental health, or social services. In the absence of a degree, five plus years of relevant experience in the field will be considered.
• This position requires a high level of written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate is someone who can build impactful partnerships and has excellent networking skills.
• Experience using technology and a variety of computer programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, video-conferencing, and online survey platforms) for coordinating activities and project reporting.
• The ability to comprehend and interpret policies and laws is highly desired.
