ABOUT THE POSITION

The Clark County Fire Department, Fire Prevention Bureau is looking to fill the position of Chemical Engineer. As a member of our team, you will provide review and consultation on plans and engineering analyses to provide expert guidance to external and internal customers on all aspects of hazardous materials/chemicals and their effect on construction, occupancy, and permit requirements. Ability to use Accela permitting software is desired, and the ability to read, comprehend and explain technical materials, plans, permits, regulations, Fire Codes, and chemical databases is required. Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, including email, is needed. This position is required to work with potential exposure to hazardous materials during inspections and emergency responses, as well as to work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations when necessary. Due to the nature of this position, it may be necessary to work outside of normal hours.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university AND four (4) years or more of professional level experience providing chemical and hazardous materials expertise and support.

Working Conditions: Work with potential exposure to hazardous materials during inspections and emergency responses. Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment and to drive a motor vehicle in order to inspect business and to attend emergency incidents; strength and stamina to inspect various facilities, climb stairs and maneuver through difficult terrain and move materials weighing up to 100 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
