The Public Works, Facilities and Parks Department is seeking candidates for Parks Building and Grounds Worker Supervisor to perform a variety of visitor service support activities at an assigned County Park. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and directing park personnel and activities in the day-to -day maintenance and improvements for a multi-park unit within the County Park System. This includes participating in and overseeing park activities, including working the park entry gate, operating equipment necessary for basic gardening, grounds keeping maintenance, improvements and care of the park lawns, maintenance of landscapes and paved areas, minor carpentry, concrete work, electrical and plumbing repairs.

County parks are located in both North and South County and include San Lorenzo Park in King City, Royal Oaks Park in Watsonville, Jacks Peak Park in Monterey, and Toro Park in Salinas. Position vacancies for all park locations will be filled using the eligibility list established by this recruitment.

Department Summary:

The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department (PWFP) serves to plan for the future needs of the County, manage infrastructure and County facilities, and protect natural resources. PWFP is comprised of three Divisions: Public Works, Facilities, and Parks which are responsible for managing and maintaining the County’s infrastructure and open space.

The County of Monterey Parks System enriches the community by providing an assortment of outdoor and recreational activities by promoting health and wellness, outdoor space to play, exercise and access facilities for self-directed or organized recreation.

The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis County-wide.

Examples of Experience/Education/Training

Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

Experience

Two (2) years degree from an accredited community college in environmental resources, natural resources, park management, or a closely related field.

AND

Experience

Two (2) years as a Parks Building and Grounds Worker II or County Park Ranger II in the Monterey County Parks Department.

OR

Responsible experience in the maintenance and development of park areas may be substituted for the required education on a year-to-year basis when accompanied by college courses equivalent to completion of thirty (30) semester's units in environmental resources , engineering, park management or a closely related field from an accredited community college.

OR

Four (4) years of park maintenance within a park, forest, public recreation, or historical area, including at least Two (2) years in the performance of duties equivalent to those of the Parks Building and Grounds Worker Il of County Parks or private sector.
