Main Purpose/Focus of the Position: This position leads Missouri’s Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) and Current Employment Statistic (CES) programs. These programs are administered in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to produce and report key economic information for Missouri. The LAUS program publishes monthly estimates of employment and unemployment statistics at the city, county, Micropolitan Statistical Areas, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), and state levels. The CES program publishes monthly estimates of employment statistics at the Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and state levels. The team is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of this important labor force data. This position has the opportunity to lead the work of the unit and ensure high quality, complete data, along with excellent customer service, to support decision-making in Missouri.

What you’ll do:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Lead the LAUS and CES programs, ensuring high quality data and reporting that meets the required performance deliverables of the program under the guidelines and requirements put forth by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Cooperative Agreement with the State of Missouri.

• Successfully supervise one team member using collaborative and supportive leadership that upholds the values of the Department, with responsibilities including hiring, assisting workload, performance management, coaching, goal-setting, and day-to-day supervision.



Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of statistical methods, data collection and dissemination, sample surveys, and quantitative analytical methods.

• Ability to use dashboards and reporting tools to measure and guide performance.

• Knowledge of economic, education, and labor market information data sets, sources and uses.

• Ability to coach and support employees to create a positive work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration and recognizes achievement.

Ability to set strategy and adapt as program needs evolve.

Beneficial education and/or work-related experience includes technical or professional experience in research, data analysis, economics, business, public administration, or closely related area, including military service.
