POSITION SUMMARY

The City of Fort Lauderdale is hiring an Executive Assistant to the City Manager. The individual selected for this role will provide highly responsible administrative support to the City Manager. This is an advanced administrative position and is distinguished from other administrative positions by the higher-level complexity of assignments and broad scope of responsibility working with a high level of sensitive and confidential matters. Assignments require independent judgment and involve high-level interactions with executive management and elected officials. Work is reviewed through conferences, observation, reports submitted, and results obtained.

This is a non-classified position appointed by the City Manager and not subject to Civil Service Rules or any collective bargaining agreement.

This job classification is in Management Category III for benefits purposes, which includes six (6) additional Management Vacation Days and a Vehicle Allowance of $250/month.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
Three (3) or more years of relevant administrative support experience required.
Experience providing direct administrative support to an executive-level leader within an organization preferred.
Full-time work experience within local (municipal or county), state, and/or federal level(s) of government preferred. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.
Veterans' preference per Florida law. If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form, and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J-204) to the online application.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time but may walk or stand for brief periods of time. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
