Position Description

The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning invites applications for the position of Surveyor I. Incumbents perform survey and mapping duties in the field and in the office. Responsibilities also include collecting field survey data and measurements using various survey equipment and instruments, processing survey data to produce maps and technical reports, and reviewing and analyzing land information records to determine and verify boundaries and right-of-way.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:

OPTION 1 :

Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, or a closely related field that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

OPTION 2 :

Certification : Possession of a valid certificate as a Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) issued by the State of California, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.

OPTION 3 :

Experience : Four (4) years of full-time, paid work experience performing surveying support work.

OPTION 4 :

Experience : Two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience performing surveying support work as an Engineering Technician with the County of Fresno.

In addition to the options listed above, the following is also required:

License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent.

SELECTION PROCESS:

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds.
