Two years of full-time paid experience as a Senior Commercial Field Representative with the City of Los Angeles;
or 2. Two years of full-time paid experience as a Commercial Service Supervisor with the City of Los Angeles.
PROCESS NOTES Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience at the time of filing may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.A valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required at the time of filing. Applicants will be disqualified and not be eligible for hire if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI.Commercial Field Supervisors may be required to utilize their personal vehicle in the performance of their duties. Upon appointment, they may be required to furnish an automobile, properly insured, for use in City service. Mileage and per diem will be paid in accordance with established rates.Some positions may direct and oversee the operations of field and service center staff in the Owens Valley/Bishop office.

In the interview, the following competencies may be evaluated: Judgment and Decision Making; Supervision; Resolves Conflict; Oral Communication; Written Communication; Customer Service; Safety Focus; including safety principles, practices, and procedures as required by the Department of Water and Power and California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA) while performing and overseeing staff engaged in field activities including those related to turning on and/or off water and/or electric services, accessing property, and conducting field investigations; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: various types of water and electric services available to Department of Water and Power customers including residential, fire, commercial, multi-family, and industrial services; various types of water and electric meters, including their components, and the methods used to read and interpret them; factors that impact the rate of electric and water bills; standards, practices, rules, regulations, and/or procedures as required for field services, investigations, meter reading activities, turning water and/or electric services on and/or off, handling of customer claims and/or complaints, collecting delinquent revenue, identifying diversion and loss revenue, and application of rates for water and electricity as found in the Department of Water and Power working rules manual; customer information management systems, such as the Customer Care and Billing System (CCBS), and its use; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Prior to the interview, applicants will be required to prepare some written material related to the duties and responsibilities of a Commercial Field Supervisor. This essay material will not be separately scored, but will be presented to the interview board for review and consideration, which may include discussion, in the overall evaluation of the candidate. Those who do not complete the advisory essay will not be invited to the interview and will be considered to have failed the entire examination. To be considered complete, the advisory essay must include a substantive response for each question or problem included in the advisory essay for which an applicant is required to provide an answer. Please note that applicants must complete the advisory essay and meet minimum qualifications as stated on this bulletin in order to be considered further in the examination process.
The advisory essay will be administered on-line . Applicants invited to participate in the examination will receive an e-mail from the City of Los Angeles outlining the specific steps needed to complete the on-line advisory essay. Applicants will be required to complete the on-line advisory essay between
MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2025 and MONDAY, JULY 7, 2025. Applicants who fail to complete the advisory essay as instructed may be disqualified.
Candidates will be notified later by e-mail of the date, time and location of the interview, which will be held in Los Angeles. It is anticipated that interviews will begin during the period of
MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2025 to FRIDAY, AUGUST 15, 2025.
