Position Summary Join Our Team as an Accountant II Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong knowledge of GAAP and Legal Basis Accounting? We are seeking a motivated Accountant II to join our Accounting Services team. Under the general supervision of the Manager of Accounting Services, this role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of our financial operations.
Key Responsibilities: - Independently perform the full scope of professional accounting duties, including complex financial analysis and reconciliations.
- Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Legal Basis Accounting in all accounting functions.
- Prepare, review, and maintain financial records, statements, and reports.
- Assist with audits, budget development, and financial planning activities.
- Use professional judgment to evaluate and resolve discrepancies, ensuring accuracy in financial transactions and compliance with regulations and policies.
- Collaborate with internal departments to support financial decision-making and provide expert accounting guidance.

Position Information - This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
- This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego.
Department Summary Accounting Services is responsible for the analysis, review, recording and reconciliation of all
transactional activity received from the sub-ledger modules into the general
ledger. Reconciliation of general ledger data is performed on a monthly basis to the highest
degree of accuracy. Accounting Services provides assistance to departments, staff and
administrators in understanding and resolving any issues with transactions and department level
accounts.
Education and Experience Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience.
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Key Qualifications - Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); office methods and procedures.
- Experience with federal and state student financial aid accounting and reporting requirements.
- Statistical and mathematical presentation of data; general understanding of internal control methods.
- Advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems.
- Ability to apply appropriate accounting treatment to financial transactions; apply accounting principles to the analysis of complex accounting problems.
- Ability to manage a significant workload with multiple deliverables by prioritizing assignments.
Compensation and Benefits Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $6,300 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,909 - $9,473 per month.
