Description
Job Location: - The office for this position is located at the Harry S. Truman State Office Building, 301 W High Street, Jefferson City, MO. 65101.
Why you’ll love this position:This is a Systems Administration Specialist position that assists in the support of the mainframe Enterprise Server environment for the State of Missouri, which is based on the IBM z/OS operating system. This position will also assist in the administration and support of various mainframe system and third-party software products with an emphasis in DFSMS (mainframe storage management), automated operations and batch job scheduling.
A successful candidate in this position needs to have a technical background in IT, good communication skills, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. Any candidate must also be able to work effectively in a team setting, as well as independently when the circumstances dictate it.
This position is with the Office of Administration, Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) working in the State Data Center (SDC).

- Installation and support of mainframe system and third-party software products.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving.
- Interact with software vendors to diagnose issues by collecting problem information, dumps, traces, etc.
- Schedule and implement changes/updates requested by Customers via change management system.
- Participate in mainframe environment Disaster Recovery testing.
- Communicate complex work and issues that arise with Customers and with technical teams.
- Manage system applications through automated operations.
- Manage batch job scheduling.
- Special projects, presentations, training, reports, and other duties as assigned.
- Ability to learn new technological skills, to interpret and apply standards, policies, procedures, and understand technical documentation.
- Ability to work with a team to develop and implement procedures and best practices.
- Ability to think critically and provide recommended solutions to issues.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
- Experience/Knowledge in mainframe application or system support is desired but not required.
- Experience/Knowledge in Windows Server environment is desired but not required.
- Experience/Knowledge in the fundamentals of computer programming logic is desired but not required.
- Experience working with and knowledge of applications such as but not limited to: TN3270 emulation, TSO, JCL, RACF, CICS, REXX, Tivoli Enterprise Portal, Microsoft Office, WebEx and SharePoint.
- Successful background check results are required for employment in this position. This may include background checks involving a candidate’s name and/or fingerprints and other screenings as needed for the specific position.
