Parks and Recreation Aide 6 (Maintenance/Night Watch Aide – Seasonal) - Peebles Island

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Unit Supervisor, the Maintenance/Security Aide will perform a range of maintenance and security duties at Peebles Island. Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform light duties building and ground maintenance, complete snow removal by shoveling snow and operating plow vehicles in the winter months.
• Perform general janitorial duties to ensure a clean and safe environment, which will include daily cleaning and sanitizing of facility restrooms, kitchen areas, and common areas; trash removal and restocking of paper goods and other supplies as needed throughout facility, i.e. soap, paper towels, etc.
• Assist in loading and unloading cargo from vehicles and storage areas.
• Assist in cleaning and checking fleet vehicles for basic maintenance.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency practice and procedures, assisting and directing staff; and assist with traffic control and parking vehicles.
• Assist in performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as painting, carpentry, mechanical repairs, check drains and assist with moving equipment/furniture or deliveries as needed.
• Participate in the general event set-up and take-down of tents, tables, chairs, and other necessary equipment as operationally needed.
• Perform security duties throughout the facility when/as needed
• Must be willing to keep current on all mandated safety trainings, including First Aid and CPR/AED.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
No minimum qualification per Civil Service.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
NYS Security Guard License is preferred, not required.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.
• Must have the ability to communicate in writing and to read and comprehend written material.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including medium-heavy lifting and using step ladders
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
