What You'll Be Doing

Do you enjoy helping others grow, solving policy puzzles, and making a difference in your community? Wake County is looking for two (2) dynamic Team Leads to support our Family & Children’s Medicaid (FCMA) Review section at our Somerset location. Each of our FCMA teams is made up of a supervisor and 8-10 eligibility caseworkers.

Daily responsibilities include:

• Serve as the go-to resource for both new team members and seasoned pros navigating new processes
• Guide your team through tricky policy questions and technical roadblocks (yes, even the NCFAST kind)
• Support staff with specialized reports and complex FCMA cases-because we’re all in this together
• Analyze Data Warehouse and NCFAST/NCTRACKS reports to help assign daily and monthly work tasks
• Work hand-in-hand with Supervisors and the Program Manager to keep things running smoothly
• Collaborate with the Program Staff Development Section to bring meaningful training to life-classroom-style and hands-on in the training lab
• Help create and lead On-the-Job Training for new staff once they graduate from classroom learning
• Partner with your supervisor to audit cases and maintain high standards across the board
• Manage a caseload, including specialized and vacant ones
• Step up as a hearing officer for local Family & Children Medicaid hearings

About Our Team

The Family & Children’s Medicaid (FCMA) Program ensures eligible low-income households have access to essential medical coverage. As part of the Review Section within the Economic Services Division of the Health and Human Services Department, this team plays a key role in upholding that mission. Each team includes a supportive supervisor and a dedicated group of 8-10 eligibility caseworkers. As the Team Lead, you'll be a trusted resource-answering questions, guiding staff through new processes, and helping navigate complex cases. You'll work closely with both new and experienced staff, assessing training needs and partnering with the Program Staff Development Section to deliver meaningful learning opportunities. Your leadership will be essential as we strive for a balanced focus on both quality and productivity-aligning our casework with standards set by Wake County Quality Control and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

• Associate's degree in Human Services or a related field
• Two years of job-related experience
• Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

• Recent (within the last 2 years) experience determining eligibility and providing case management for Economic Services Programs such as Family and/or Adult Medicaid or Work First, through a State or County Department of Social Services/Human Services.
• Experience serving as a mentor, lead worker, team leader, or supervisor.
• Spanish language skills preferred, but not required.

Hiring Range: 23. 57-30.28

Market Range: 23.57 - 37.00
