POSITION SUMMARY

This is skilled work of more than average difficulty, which may include working supervisory responsibility in the installation, maintenance, fabrication, and repair of mechanical equipment employed in the operation of the Public Services Department on an assigned shift.

An employee in this class is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, servicing, overhaul, and repair of machinery, pumps, motors, and other equipment used in operation of water and wastewater treatment plants, solid waste disposal, and related facilities. Assignments are received in the form of oral and/or written work orders and may vary between positions and shifts. The employee inspects mechanical equipment for mechanical deficiencies and proceeds on own initiative to remedy defects. An employee in this class may act as leadman of a crew and is responsible for the successful completion of assigned maintenance programs. Work is reviewed by an assigned supervisor by inspection while in progress and/or upon completion, and by analysis of maintenance records and reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

1. Have successfully graduated from a standard high school or trade school, or possess a G.E.D. from a recognized institution.

2. Possess at least two (2) years paid work experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment employed in the operation of water and wastewater treatment plants, well fields, pumping stations, and solid waste facilities.

3. Depending on job location, a Class "A" or Class "B" CDL with airbrake endorsement and an acceptable driving record may be required.

4. If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form, and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form ( J-204) to the online application.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Ability to lift, stoop, bend, crawl, kneel and climb ladders up to 30 feet in performing a variety of job-related tasks. Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
