Duties Description

The selected candidate will join the Regional Road Crew under the direction of both the Road Crew Maintenance Supervisor and the Regional Park Maintenance Supervisor, SG-18. The primary work for this position will involve:

• Operating garbage trucks to empty dumpsters within park areas and transporting the waste to the transfer station.
• Using mowers and/or brush hogs to maintain vegetation within road rights-of-ways.
• Operating heavy equipment for road maintenance and drainage system construction and repair.
• Assisting with the installation and maintenance of erosion control measures.
• Performing medium to heavy manual labor as part of daily tasks.
• Conducting routine maintenance on tools, equipment, and vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.
• Preparing written reports on daily activities and maintaining other necessary records.
• Ensuring compliance with safety standards, procedures, and regulations related to the work being performed.
• Adhering to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

There are no minimum qualifications for this title per Civil Service.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must have the ability to comprehend and follow instructions, including written material.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License* with air brake endorsement that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.

*Under the provision of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
