Since 1972, the Missouri Division of Fire Safety / Office of the State Fire Marshal has been the State of Missouri’s premier regulatory oversight and enforcement agency for Fire Investigations, Fire Inspections, Elevator and Amusement Ride Safety, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety, and Firefighter Training and Certification. The Division provides services to over 25,000 firefighters in Missouri, as well as to the 6.1 million residents and over 40 million visitors to the state, each year.

As the leader of the Elevator and Amusement Ride Safety Unit, you would be an integral part of a team responsible for compliance and general public safety regarding elevators, escalators, moving walks, dumbwaiters and related equipment, as well as the safe operation and compliance of amusement rides.

Job Description:

• This is a leadership position with high level, complex management tasks and decision making.
• You will be responsible for:
  • Administration of licensing elevator and amusement ride inspectors for Missouri.
  • Directing the management of files of all elevators, escalators, moving walks, lifts, dumbwaiters, and associated equipment in Missouri.
  • Submit written reports and address questions regarding elevator and amusement ride rules and regulations.
  • Oversee the permitting process of all amusement rides in Missouri.
  • Research and compile reports for the Elevator Safety and Amusement Ride Safety Boards.
  • Perform elevator and amusement ride inspections as required.
  • Propose rule changes for elevator and amusement ride rules in the Code of State Regulations.
  • Develop and provide interpretations of applicable laws, rules, and codes pertaining to the acceptance and/or rejection of proposed variances.

Qualifications

• Must be of good moral character; shall not have been convicted of a felony or other crime involving moral turpitude; and shall be a citizen of the United States; and
• Shall possess a valid Missouri Driver’s License, or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment; and
• Graduate from an accredited school four-year college with major work in engineering, architecture, public administration, or related field; four years professional elevator inspection experience; and hold an American Society of Mechanical Engineers Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certification; or
• Graduate from an accredited two-year college or university with major course in engineering, architecture, public administration, or related field; six years professional elevator inspection experience; and hold a QEI certification; or
• High school education or the equivalent and at least eight years professional elevator experience and hold a QEI certification. Two years’ experience as a manager, trainer, or supervisor is required; and
• Ability to obtain National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO) - Level 1 certification within 18 months of employment.

Additional Qualifications and Requirements

• • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions and to maintain complex records.
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment such as adding, calculating, fax, and copy machines.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of PC operating system, Windows, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Familiar with general accounting procedures.

Salary:

$74,500.00-$80,000.00 per Year
