TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

PLEASE NOTE: The salary listed on this posting will receive a 5% legislative appropriated increase effective 9/1/2024.

Under the direction of the Black Bear Restaurant management at Indian Lodge this position performs routine (journey-level) food preparation work. Cooks food menu items when orders are received. Cleans kitchen, walk-ins and work areas. Studies cooking and kitchen operations to identify areas in need of correction or improvement and makes recommendations for improving operating efficiency. Reports kitchen equipment in need of repair or replacement. Maintains inventory of food and supplies and prepares requisitions for needed items as appropriate. Completes daily reports. May assist in other areas such as housekeeping, maintenance or groundskeeping. Works under limited supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Completion of 8th grade.

Experience:

Six months experience in food preparation in a full-service restaurant, cooking for menu preparation and groups.

Licensure:

Must have or be able to obtain within thirty days of employment a valid Food Handler Certification recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Graduation from High School or GED.

Experience:

One year experience in food preparation in a full-service restaurant, cooking for menu preparation and groups.

Licensure:

A valid Food Handler Certification recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of restaurant operation including quantity food preparation techniques and procedures;

Knowledge of ordering inventory of grocery supplies;

Knowledge of health and safety regulations, proper food temperatures and safe food handling techniques;

Knowledge of cooking and baking;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in use and care of food preparation appliances and equipment;

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

Skill in training others;

Ability to analyze problems and recommend solutions;

Ability to interpret and follow recipes;

Ability to accurately follow instructions;

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

Ability to work as a member of a team;

Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 20 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public hotel-type facility;

Required to work 40 hours per week includes various schedules, with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and the potential to work split shifts;

Required to adjust to changing schedules;

Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 30 lbs.;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
