We are in search of a visionary leader to join our Department of Veteran Affairs as the next Director of Veterans Affairs overseeing the Department in all planning and execution of the organization’s mission and goals, from both the strategic and operational levels.

Candidates for Director of Veterans’ Affairs must be veterans who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who were discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable; applicants are asked to provide a copy of their DD Form 214 with their application materials.

Outstanding Compensation and Benefits: San Bernardino County offers a generous compensation package that includes a competitive salary within the designated 81B salary range and our excellent Exempt B Benefits package. The County also offers an alternative Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides a wage differential of 4% above the base salary rate with a complementing modified leaves package and benefits. Annual base salary up to $259,695.

Minimum Requirements

Desired Qualifications

Education : Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, management, behavioral/social science, or closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) + years of progressively responsible experience managing a veterans’ services or social services program, which has included organizational and personnel management, public relations, and fiscal and budgetary responsibility. The future Director will also be a fiscally responsible administrator, with experience handling personnel issues and able to solve problems with long term solutions.

The Ideal Candidate will have extensive experience with an organization that provides services to veterans of the United States Armed Forces and be knowledgeable of and an advocate for services and benefits available to veterans. In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in partnership with County, State, Federal, and community agencies and build positive and constructive relationships to benefit our veterans; lead with integrity and inspire staff to provide services in an effective, efficient, and respectful manner; promote diversity and inclusion; and have experience working with diverse populations.

Candidates possessing an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
