Description
The PositionOPEN EXAMINATION - ONE YEAR PROBATIONARY PERIOD In addition to the responsibilities of the Traffic Engineer I, this mid-management position is responsible for oversight and supervision of significant engineering projects. Positions at this level supervise the work of an engineering design group and perform difficult engineering design work.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following: Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.
Manages major projects involving the preparation and supervision of designs, specifications, plans, estimates, and reports involved in the analysis, construction and operation of a wide variety of traffic engineering work such as new traffic signals, traffic signal modifications, traffic signal timing, traffic management system, intelligent transportation system (ITS) infrastructure and traffic signs and pavement markings.
Supervises and assists in the checking of analyses, computations and recommendations submitted in connection with applications for private developments.
Maintains current knowledge of traffic engineering, traffic operations and transportation planning principles, and current knowledge of applicable laws, codes, standards, statues, and legislative updates.
Supervises and assists in the checking of plans, specifications and computations submitted in connection with traffic and transportation facilities, maintenance of traffic plans, operational modifications for compliance with State and local standards and other matters governed by municipal ordinances.
May have the opportunity to participate in related divisional cross-training efforts. Experience and qualifications gained in this cross training may apply towards promotional opportunities and transfers.
Supervises employees in assigned engineering tasks. Reviews and evaluates employee's job performance and recommends appropriate action.
Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest ethical standards.
Drives on City business as necessary.
Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe, efficient manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
Minimum RequirementsExperience Four years professional engineering experience in traffic engineering work.
Education/Training Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
License(s)/Certification(s) Valid Class C California driver's license. Registration as a Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer with the California State Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.

Note An equivalent combination of experience, education and/or training may substitute for the listed minimum requirements.
There is no equivalent for registration as a Civil Engineer or Traffic Engineer with the California State Board.
Selection Process EVALUATION OF APPLICATION: All applications, resumes and submitted reference materials will be reviewed and evaluated and only the best-qualified candidates based on applicable experience will be invited to the selection process.
ORAL INTERVIEW: (Weight of 100%) To evaluate the applicant's experience, education, and general background for the position.
Candidates must pass each exam component with a minimum score of 70.00% in order to be placed on the eligible list.
TIME AND PLACE OF THE EXAMINATION WILL BE ANNOUNCED. Any evaluation will be based on the candidate's education and experience as related to the position. Any examination will be to evaluate the candidate's education, experience, knowledge and skills for the position. The City of Glendale reserves the right to modify the above stated examination components and/or weights. Should this be necessary, the candidates will be notified of the specific examination components and weights prior to the administration of any examination. The selected candidate will be subjected to a background check including Livescan fingerprinting.
