Description
Applications will be reviewed by Tulare County Human Resources & Development. As extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area.
Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June. An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee. Applications will be active for six months. If you are hired for extra help and you complete a work assignment and then you if you wish to be employed again, you must resubmit an Extra Help application online. Typical Duties Level I - Install and remove communication equipment, component parts, electronic sub-system assemblies, communication cabling systems and antenna installations some of which may be located on 200ft communication towers or poles.
- Bench and field test new and existing communications and electronic test equipment for accuracy, performance, reliability, and compliance with specifications and regulations.
- Investigate complaints, repair and adjust all equipment in the field and workshop.
- Diagnose and locate malfunctions and specific electronic component failure of communication systems and equipment, including operational failure of electrical generators and electronic cabling systems.
- Upkeep and maintenance of radio repeater sites, weed and fire prevention clearing, pest control, general cleaning within building and solar panel cleaning.

Minimum QualificationsMinimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education: - Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by vocational or technical courses in the operation and maintenance of voice and data radio, and electronic communication equipment.
Experience: - Level I: Three years of experience in the installation and maintenance of VHF and UHF radio frequency communication equipment.
Knowledge of: - Landmobile communications equipment including mobile and portable units, base station, and microwave systems.
- Electrical safety standards and FCC regulations.
- Precision soldering techniques for miniature electronic circuitry.
- Electronic theory including transistors, integrated circuits, and microprocessors.
Skill/Ability to: - Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
- Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical diagrams.
- Use precision electronic test equipment to test and repair electronic communications systems.
- Analyze equipment failures and determine specific electronic component malfunctions.
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately; work tactfully and courteously with others.
- Obtain competent climber certifications to climb towers.
- Obtain certificate to operate mobile elevated work platform.
License or Certificate: - Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
