As a Day Program Specialist / Direct Support Professional (DSP), you'll play a vital role in empowering participants to reach their fullest potential-socially, physically, and emotionally-while ensuring their safety, dignity, and independence are always prioritized.
What You'll Do
- Provide hands-on support with daily living activities, including hygiene, meals, and mobility
- Implement individualized program plans and engage participants in enriching activities
- Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment
- Support community outings and meaningful social experiences
- Maintain accurate documentation using agency systems
- Assist with safe transportation of participants using agency vehicles
- Respond calmly and effectively to behavioral or emergency situations
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Connecticut driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, (Medication Administration certifications if required)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Comfort using computers and basic software
- A compassionate, patient, and reliable approach to care
This is an active, hands-on role that includes:
- Assisting with lifting, transferring, personal care/hygiene and mobility support
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Working in environments with varying noise levels and conditions
- Attend community outings and events with individuals
- driving agency vehicles
- Following safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols
- Consistent weekday schedule - no nights or weekends
