Essential Duties of a Jail Deputy:

  • Conduct preliminary investigations, gather evidence, administer first aid, and prepare detailed reports and documentation.
  • Escort and transport inmates within the facility and to the hospital for medical needs, ensuring safety and security at all times.
  • Inspect facility infrastructure, including locks, doors, and security equipment, to identify and address safety concerns.
  • Assist with court-related functions, including preparing inmates for advisal and court appearances.
  • Participate in required training and maintain certifications, including driving, defensive tactics (PPCT), firearms, Taser, and OC.
  • Perform additional law enforcement duties at community events and other assignments as directed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Shift Schedule

  • Mandatory shift rotation every 3 months
  • 12-hour shifts
    • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
    • Graveyard Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Qualifications for Success

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must currently be COLORADO P.O.S.T. Certified.
  • Jail deputy experience preferred
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid Colorado Drivers' License.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The testing process includes:

  • Completing the written exam through the National Testing Network.
  • A minimum score of 70% is required in each section (Video, Written, and Reading).
  • Oral Board Interview.
  • Physical Fitness Test Battery. A detailed email will be sent to eligible candidates closer to the testing date for Oral board interviews and Physical Testing. Please plan to attend scheduled testing dates as no other dates will be available.
  • The Background process may include any/all of the following:
    • Psychological evaluation
    • Physical Exam
    • Medical Exam
    • Integrity Interview
    • CVSA exam (truth verification)
