Crossing Guard

Position: Crossing Guard

Pay Grade: PS1

Duty Days: 177

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License.
  • Must have transportation to and from the crossing.
  • Must be available to take a 4-hour traffic control training class.
  • Must have the ability to be accessed by telephone for the duration of the 177-day assignment and as needed during the off period.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the safety of the students while they cross streets at designated crossing zones.
  • Works effectively with students, patrons and school principals.
  • Have a pleasing personality.
  • Must be on time for crossing guard assignment.
  • Must be at work assignment each day for the 177 day school session.
  • Must be willing to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time.
  • Must abide by all rules and regulations outlined in the crossing guard procedures and directives manual.
  • Must be able to stand and walk continuously for time periods of 1 hour or more.
  • Reports to the Crossing Guard Coordinator.
  • Will be subject to assignment as determined by the Chief of Police.

Work Conditions

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work outside under exposure to extreme temperatures (hot and cold).
  • Frequent walking, standing, kneeling and reaching.
  • Frequent repetitive hand and wrist actions.

A select number of applicants will be invited for an interview. Only persons with the above credentials and background will be considered.
