Librarian (Itinerant)Loudoun County Public Schools; Cardinal Ridge Elementary School - Centreville, VirginiaJob OverviewThe Librarian provides students and teachers intellectual and physical access to materials in appropriate formats and fosters competence and stimulates interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas. Works with other educators to design learning strategies to meet student needs.Roles and ResponsibilitiesOperates and supervises the Media Center, including planning and evaluating the total program;Follows state and local policies and the Library Media Handbook and establishes policies and routines that facilitate unimpeded access to information;Creates an environment that encourages use of the media center, maintains records, prepares reports including budget, accounting, and inventory, and provides accurate retrieval and circulation systems;Provides formal and informal instruction in information skills, production of materials, and use of instructional technologies;Promotes skill, knowledge, and attitudes about information access, use, and communication as part of the school system;Develops a collection of resources that supports and enhances the curriculum and meets the personal and intellectual needs of students and staff;Assists the Principal to ensure instructional materials and equipment are used effectively for learning experiences;Participates in curriculum planning and program development;Offers teachers assistance in using information resources, acquiring and assessing instructional materials, and incorporating information skills into the curriculum;Promotes literacy and enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening;Supervises library assistants, adult volunteers, and student aides, ensuring clerical routines are performed effectively;Consults with and advises administrative staff regarding the library media program;Takes action to stay up-to-date through courses, staff development, conferences, and professional reading;Promotes and demonstrates the importance of the library media program in education and publicizes available services and resources to the school community;Performs related work as required.QualificationsHolds or is eligible for a Virginia Teaching license with an endorsement in Library Science.Itinerant 0.8 FTE at Cardinal Ridge Elementary and 0.2 with Virtual Distance Elementary.ReportingReports to: PrincipalJob RequirementsCitizenship, residency, or work visa required.#J-18808-Ljbffr
