The JobThe
San Bernardino County Fire Protection District is recruiting for a
Fire Administratorwho plans, directs, and oversees the Administrative Services Division of the Fire District. Serves as a member of the Fire District executive team, providing leadership and strategic oversight for programs including Fire Human Resources, Payroll, Risk Management, Privacy and Compliance, Organizational Development, Diversity and Wellness.
Key Responsibilities may include:- Provide executive leadership and oversight for Administrative Services programs.
- Ensure division operations are efficient, compliant with applicable laws and District policies, and aligned with organizational objectives.
- Provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership to support operational excellence and organizational success.
- Develops and reviews unit budget; identifies staffing and operational needs.
- Collects and analyzes data and legislation affecting division operations; and prepare reports, analyses, and recommendations for executive leadership.
- Interprets personnel rules, policies, and procedures; resolves employment and employee relations issues.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background: A successful background check is required prior to assignment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
At-Will Status: This is an exempt position. Individuals in the Exempt group are Unclassified, do not attain regular status, and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Minimum Requirements EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience directing multiple administrative, operational, or organizational support functions. Experience must include a combination of organizational development, budget administration, workforce planning, interpreting and implementing laws, regulations, policies, and administrative procedures, and advising executive leadership on organizational and operational matters. Experience must include two (2) years of e xperience in a supervisory capacity with responsibility for planning, assigning, directing, and evaluating the work of employees; providing coaching and performance feedback; and resolving personnel and operational issues.
--AND-- EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public/Business Administration, Behavioral/Social Science, Accounting, Finance, H uman Resources, Organizational Leadership, or a closely related field.
--OR--Sixty (60) semester (90 quarter) units of completed college coursework, half of the units must be upper division , in Public/Business Administration, Behavioral/Social Science, Accounting, Human Resources, Organizational Leadership, Finance or other relevant field of study. A list of completed college coursework or legible transcripts must be submitted with the application if the candidate does not possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in one of the qualifying fields of study listed above
AND two (2) additional years of experience supporting organizational development, budget administration, workforce planning, interpreting and implementing laws, regulations, policies, and administrative procedures, and advising executive leadership on organizational and operational matters.
Important Note: Two (2) years of experience supporting management or professional-level administrative services staff is a substitution for those applicants who do not possess a Bachelor's Degree. Therefore, if you are applying under this substitution option, you must possess the substitution experience in addition to a required experience option listed above.
Applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered.
Note: Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Degrees or coursework completed outside the U.S. must be accompanied with an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service showing equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by any accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. Desired QualificationsThe ideal candidate is a collaborative, strategic leader with executive-level experience overseeing multiple administrative functions in a complex public-sector organization. They have a proven ability to lead organizational change, develop high-performing teams, manage resources effectively, and provide trusted guidance to executive leadership. Experience overseeing human resources functions, including position control, is highly desirable.
