Description
Job SummaryThe City of Greenville's Cemetery Division is currently seeking a Grounds Maintenance Technician I. This position supports cemetery operations by operating a variety of light to medium-duty landscape and construction vehicles and equipment. This includes mausoleum lift, mowers, backhoe, tractor, dump trucks, trailers, sprayers, string trimmers, hedgers, and other associated tools and equipment.
Regular working hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
FLSA Status: Non-ExemptExamples of Duties- Maintains cemetery grounds by mowing, trimming, and hedging;
- Maintains roads and paths in the cemetery;
- Assists in marking of graves;
- Assists in digging graves;
- Performs litter patrol;
- Performs maintenance on equipment and tools;
- Performs maintenance and repairs on various structures and facilities;
- Maintains grounds of other city-owned properties;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: - High school diploma or GED; and
- Six months of experience operating various light to medium-duty motorized vehicles and equipment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: - operating various light to medium-duty motorized vehicles and equipment as assigned.
- hazards and safety precautions involved in the operation of landscape and construction vehicles and equipment.
- state and local laws pertaining to the operation of equipment on highways.
Skilled in: - the safe operation of assigned equipment and vehicles.
- completing minor adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.
- communicating effectively.
Ability to: - read plans and make measurements based on the plans.
- work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
- understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Special Requirements- Currently possess a valid N.C. Driver's License.
- Valid N.C. Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 12 months of hire.
- This position requires work during inclement weather, natural disasters, emergency situations, and on call duty.
