DescriptionThe Convenience Site Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Bees Ferry Convenience Center and
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) site to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible waste
handling and recycling services for Charleston County residents. Lead and develop site staff, coordinate
operational activities, maintain regulatory and departmental standards, and deliver exceptional customer
service while promoting workplace safety and operational excellence.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $60,840 - $79,684 (Estimated Annual Salary)OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELYDuties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of functions.) Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Bees Ferry Convenience Center and HHW site to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant facility operations. Oversees and reviews the work of up to 12+ employees by providing instruction, assigning tasks, planning workflows, and evaluating completed work. Develops staff schedules and work assignments to maintain adequate operational coverage and productivity. Records and maintains payroll information for assigned department employees accurately and timely. Ensures the safe and proper unloading of roll-off containers and the organized stacking of materials onto pallets and into Gaylord boxes. Schedules and monitors outgoing loads of recyclable and hazardous materials, including e-waste, used oil, antifreeze, paint, and household chemicals. Processes, sorts, mixes, and prepares paint for reuse and resale in accordance with established procedures. Oversees the proper handling, storage, and management of household hazardous chemicals to maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Operates equipment and vehicles, including box trucks, to transport paint and chemicals from other Charleston County collection sites. Assists, interacts, and communicates professionally with Charleston County residents and coworkers while delivering excellent customer service. Instructs and trains employees on job duties, operational procedures, safety practices, and customer service expectations. Supervises employee performance and supports staff development through coaching, guidance, and performance feedback. Monitors inventory levels of departmental equipment, supplies, and operational materials to ensure availability and accountability. Monitors site activities to ensure resident identification is verified prior to service and reports suspected commercial misuse of the facility. Promotes and enforces workplace safety standards and safe operating practices to reduce hazards and maintain a safe work environment. Maintains departmental standards through effective coordination of daily activities, staff oversight, and operational compliance. Performs other duties or assumes other responsibilities as apparent or assigned.Must be able to perform all mandatory functions on both the HHW and Convenience center sites
Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma (or GED) required. Minimum of three (3) years or more of relevant administrative work experience with increasingly progressive responsibilities, preferably in recycling and solid waste collection and disposal. Supervisory experience preferred. recycling and solid waste collection and disposal. Must possess or obtain Hazwoper certification within six (6) months of hire date.Proficient in MS Office Suite. Must demonstrate the ability to operate equipment such as forklift, skid steers, and front-end loader. If hired, candidate must be qualified to operate these types of equipment within six (6) months of hire date. Must possess a valid South Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License and obtain a Hazmat endorsement within three (3) months of hire and meet the requirements of the County’s motor vehicle policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to function productively in a standard office environment accessing cabinets, shelving, work areas and office equipment.Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to fifty-five (55) pounds.Able to stand, crouch, bend, kneel, or climb for extended periods.Able to perform all essential functions of the position while wearing required protective equipment.Able to traverse over uneven ground, paved and unpaved for up to a quarter of a mile at a time several times per day.Able to sit or stand for long periods of time and to maintain focus on work assignment(s).Able to effectively communicate orally (in person and over the telephone) and in writing (electronically and handwritten) in English.Ability to perform ALL tasks that the Convenience site and HHW employees are required to do.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Day is divided between Administrative(office) and out in the yard with the team.Some holiday and weekend duties may be required. Standard work hours determined by the supervisor.
