Description
Overview Storekeeper maintains division records by conducting periodic reviews and inventories of recovered stolen/abandoned property and reviewing inventory assessments. Accepts items from Officers and other sources ensuring evidence tag is in place. Enter inventory into the database and release property to owner, officer, and/or attorney. They must also obtain authorization to release property.
Responsibilities • Inspect items which have been received and determine that each item has been properly packaged to prevent contamination and proof read all documents to ensure the data written on the documents is accurate and correct
• Release property back to the owner with an authorization form from the Officer
• Attempt to notify owner by letter or telephone
• Prepare incoming weapons for processing by the Firearms Examiner from Forensics for ballistic testing
• Money received that is more than $500 is put in the money vault
• Narcotics Division Captain or Lieutenants are informed of the amount received related to a drug case
• Research cases from the Nueces Country District Clerk website to view if cases are pending before purging property
• Reports are printed out and attached with the disposition forms for case Officers to review
• Transport evidence, including homicide and/or found/safekeeping property to the second off-site warehouse
• Prepare property for auction, such as, property retention period has expired as required by state law, case closed or unknown owner after sending out letters to owner and return unclaimed
• Run all serial numbers to make sure there is no "hit" from Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC)
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non Exempt - Full-Time
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications • High School Diploma / GED
• Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience
Licenses and Certifications • Obtain TCIC/NCIC Certification within six (6) months of hire
Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Employment Testing Employment is contingent on passing any post-offer pre-employment screening as listed below: • Criminal Background Check: Yes

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
