Visiting Faculty: Biological Sciences

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites applications for a non-renewable one-year visiting assistant professor of Biology to begin August 2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Molecular/Cellular Biology or a closely related field. The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates with expertise in neurobiology, including developmental, cellular, or molecular neuroscience and those that can teach our pre-health courses. Candidates must be committed to contributing to an undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, and modern research-integrated biology degree program.

CSUSM values teaching undergraduates and involving them in research. The campus is located on a scenic hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its temperate climate and growing technology industries. CSUSM offers a B.S. in Biological Sciences, with concentrations in General Biology, Ecology, Cellular and Molecular Biology and Physiology. CSUSM is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and has been recognized nationally as an institution friendly to military veteran students and to junior faculty.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach introductory and upper division biology courses in areas such as cell and molecular biology, neurobiology, or related fields and will receive mentorship in effectively adopting evidence-based pedagogies and strategies to enhance student success. The successful candidate will mentor undergraduate research projects and will contribute to activities serving the Department, College, University, and external community.
