Deputy Treasurer - Customer Service
Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSUnder close supervision, provides customer service on behalf of the Lewis County Treasurer’s; performs a variety of service and support functions related to departmental operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are the fundamental, crucial job duties performed by this position. This is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that may be assigned. Incumbent may be required to perform other duties as assigned and appropriate for the position.
- Assists customers at the public counter and by telephone; responds to public inquiries regarding departmental programs, services, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Calculates applicable taxes and fees and processes property transfers, mobile home movement permits, and/or Forest Patrol refunds.
- Conducts research in relation to tax information, special assessments, and property tax refunds.
- Calculates, bills, and collects taxes for short plats, long plats, and boundary line surveys.
- Prepares and sends out property tax billing, utility billing, special assessments, and refunds.
- Collects, receipts, reconciles, and deposits payments for taxes, fees, and other revenue items.
- Receipts revenues deposited by County offices, departments and junior taxing and assessment districts.
- Prepares and maintains forms, records, files, and/or other documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis work regularly requires sitting for extended periods of time, frequently requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching reaching with hands and arms, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Work is generally performed in a moderately noisy office setting (e.g. business office, light traffic), with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- High School Diploma; AND four (4) years’ customer service and/or general office experience OR Associate’s degree; AND two (2) years’ customer service and/or general office experience OR a combination of four years’ experience and/or education
- Must be bondable
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
PREFERRED:- Clerical experience that includes working with Microsoft Office software
- Customer service experience that includes dealing with unhappy or difficult customers/clients
- Cash handling / accounting experience that includes working with specialized software

- Meeting deadlines and working through frequent interruptions and inquiries.
Ability to:- Learn and follow County policies and procedures, and Washington State RCWs and WACs related to job assignments.
- Adapt to changing business needs, conditions, priorities and work responsibilities.
- Learn, retain, and recall new or changing information and processes.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, considering the needs of the audience.
