Position DescriptionEmployees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.
Major/Essential Functions- Support and coordinate research activities focused on human translation regulation, including in vitro translation systems, reporter-based assays, and viral- and hypoxia-related studies.
- Execute established experimental protocols involving mammalian cell culture, plasmid-based genetic manipulation, and biochemical assays, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and proper documentation.
- Maintain core laboratory operations, including cell line maintenance under BSL-2 conditions, preparation and tracking of plasmids and reagents, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with biosafety and institutional regulations.
- Operate and maintain both standard and specialized laboratory equipment.
- Maintain an organized, efficient, and compliant laboratory environment and support the continuity and reliability of experimental workflows across ongoing projects.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (4 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.
