RequirementsMOS Codes: None Education and Experience : A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Public Health, Community Health, Education, Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or other related field and two (2) years of professional experience in a public health environment.
Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
General PurposeUnder general supervision, organizes and coordinates the department's preparedness planning activities including regulatory compliance, public education and community outreach.
Typical DutiesPromote and conduct outreach activities involving public health preparedness. Involves: Conduct public health preparedness outreach activities including critical incident exercise planning, training and evaluation of protocols; assistance with City-County All-Hazards Plans and training; Just-in-Time Training for Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) roles in Points of Dispensing for vaccine and antiviral distribution (PODS); coordinate SNS activities; exercise all components of the plan and evaluates exercises to identify gaps and recommended improvement areas. Coordinate the Crisis and Emergency Risk Communications (CERC) Plan and CERC Team training to include training alternate spokespersons. Develop a CERC team training curriculum. Periodically update website and brief staff during any event of public health concern or emergency. Coordinate staff at City-County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and act as a liaison at community and agency meetings. Represent Public Health Preparedness (PHP) in meetings with partners and stakeholders; attends and participates in relevant preparedness training. Research and interpret current and changing guidelines and practices at the state level. Perform community mitigation measures and prepares technical reports to inform upper management on current situation. Conduct trainings and presentations to a wide variety of groups regarding the Department of Public Health's role in its response to medical or public health events or emergencies. Assist with state grant budget procedures, amendments, revisions, redirections. Assist with delivering the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) work plan deliverables as delineated by the state. Complete reports to state in regards to PHEP work plan. Carry out DSHS Discretionary Funding Projects.
Supervise assigned personnel and volunteers. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
