Description

Overview

Under direct supervision, the Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector I is responsible for performing plumbing and mechanical inspections. Ensuring construction is in conformance with adopted codes and ordinances. Additional responsibilities include communicating with construction contractors based on inspection results.

Responsibilities

• Performs field inspections of Plumbing and Mechanical components and ensures construction conforms to adopted codes and ordinances. If determination of applicable code is needed, Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector I will defer to Senior Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector for clarity.

• Responsible for communicating inspection results with contractors and builders when clarification is requested.

• Maintains all records of inspections completed and logs of issues at inspection sites. Will ensure that all records are complete and uploaded into IPS system of record. Under guidance of Inspector II and the Senior, will read and review plans for plumbing and mechanical compliance.

• Required to attend training sessions related to inspection division. This will include attending sessions pertaining to new codes and ordinances.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time

• Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

• TSBPE Journeyman Plumber or TSBPE Certified Inspector at time of hire

• TSBPE Certified Inspector within twelve (12) months of hire

• ICC Residential Plumbing or ICC Residential Mechanical Inspector within twelve (12) months of hire

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
